    Comparative Effect of Roof Material Toward Thermal Condition on the Roof Space. Case Study: High Density Settlement in Semarang City

    The requirementfor residential and the potential for buildingdensity in an environment willaffect the physiological and thermal comfort of building occupants. The uncomfortable thermal conditions in the building are complained by building occupants due to the inappropriate selection of roof materials, thus making the building unable to achieve the expected thermal conditions. Selection of appropriate roof material will help in the process of air conditioning and decrese energy consumption for cooling space. Our study objects are single-storey house in the Perum Sendang Mulyo, Semarang City that represent high density settlement. Data measurement collected from roof spaces in saddle roof. The roof materials are tile roof, asbestos and zinc. The expectations of this research are to know thermal condition of roof space that generated from various type of roof material.     Vertical Greenery System as the Passive Design Strategy for Mitigating Urban Heat Island in Tropical Area: A Comparative Field Measurement Between Green Facade and Green Wall

    Abstract. During the last decade, greenery aspect in the building envelope starts to increase their presence in the building design. Vertical greenery system became the one of alternatives that potential to energy-saving in the building. However, in tropical area, researches related to vertical greenery system are enigmatic since reducing heat in tropical area are crutial for maintaining space in comfort condition. In this study, a comparative thermal analysis between green facade and green wall will present. A model called house miniature set up with climbing plans as model of green facade. While for green wall, data measurement was conducted in the office building with green wall as building envelope. The results showed a high potential for energy savings during peak time in the afternoon for green wall (1.5%) and green facade (1.3%) in comparison to the bare wall. While for interior facade are 2.6% for green wall and 2.2% for green facade. Effect of vertical greenery also found in the outdoor air temperature around greenery system. Results show at the hottest time of the day, the green wall and green facade reduced outdoor temperatures by 3.0°C and 1.2°C, respectively. Based on the analysis, compared to green facade, the cooling effect produced by green wall is faster. Possibility, the substrate properties in the green wall also help to decrease temperature. The reduction can be due to the foliage density as the leaves of green wall is denser than leaves in green facade. Keywords : building envelope, green facade, green wall, vertical greenery system

    ABSTRACT Kampung houses are houses in kampung area of the city. Kampung House oftenly transformed into others use as urban dynamics. One of the transfomation is related to the commercial activities addition by the house owner. It make house with full private space become into mixused house with more public spaces or completely changed into full public commercial building. This study investigate the spatial transformation pattern of the kampung houses due to their commercial activities addition. Site observations, interviews and questionnaires were performed to study the spatial transformation. This study found that in kampung houses, the spatial transformation pattern was depend on type of commercial activities and owner perceptions, and there are several steps of the spatial transformation related the commercial activity addition.     Kawasan Kota Lama sempat mengalami kondisi stagnan, bahkan cenderung menurun kualitas lingkungannya, di periode tahun 1980 hingga 1990-an. Jangankan di malam hari, bahkan di siang hari pun, kawasan ini seperti kawasan kota mati, dengan dominasi aktifitas pergudangan dan bangunan-bangunan yang dibiarkan kosong dan mangkrak. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode studi literatur warisan dunia dan studi kasus kota lama secara analisa deskripsi terhadap temuan observasi lapangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji sasaran kotalama semarang dalam kriteria pusaka dunia.
